Cautions
Must be diluted before use. Can cause contact dermatitis and irritation if used undiluted. Not suitable for ingestion.
Can I apply tea tree oil directly to skin?
Never apply undiluted tea tree oil. Always use 1-5% diluted in a carrier or as part of a formulated product. Pure tea tree oil can cause chemical burns.
Tea tree oil vs benzoyl peroxide?
Both kill acne bacteria. Benzoyl peroxide is faster-acting but more drying. Tea tree oil is gentler but slower. Tea tree oil is a good option if benzoyl peroxide irritates your skin.
Can tea tree oil cause breakouts?
In some people, tea tree oil can be comedogenic or trigger contact dermatitis. Patch test first and discontinue if irritation or new breakouts occur.
Is tea tree oil safe for sensitive skin?
At low concentrations (1-2%), many sensitive skin types tolerate tea tree oil well. However, it is a known allergen for some people. Always patch test.
