Also known as: Retinaldehyde, Vitamin A Aldehyde

A form of Vitamin A one conversion step closer to retinoic acid than retinol. More potent than retinol but gentler than tretinoin.

More potent than retinol, antibacterial properties, anti-aging, improves texture, suitable intermediate retinoid.

How to Use

Apply at night. Start 2-3 times per week. Only one conversion step to active retinoic acid means faster results than retinol.

Research Summary

Studies show comparable efficacy to tretinoin for some endpoints with less irritation. Unique antibacterial activity against P. acnes.

What to Avoid With
  • pregnancy
  • breastfeeding

Cautions

Can cause irritation though generally better tolerated than tretinoin. Sun sensitivity. Not as widely available as retinol.
