Marula oil is a luxurious, fast-absorbing oil cold-pressed from the kernels of the fruit of the Sclerocarya birrea tree, indigenous to southern and eastern Africa. Marula oil is generally very well tolerated with few reported adverse reactions. However, individuals with known allergies to tree nuts or members of the Anacardiaceae family (which includes mangoes and cashews) should perform a patch test before use, as Sclerocarya birrea is a member of this family. The high oleic acid content may not be ideal for acne-prone skin in some individuals, as oleic acid can be mildly comedogenic for certain skin types. In such cases, it is better suited as a body oil or blended with higher-linoleic acid oils for facial use.
